In Adium, they're mapped to the "Home" and "End" keys since cmd+left and cmd+right are used to switch tabs. In TextMate, it's cmd+left. Granted I'm still very annoyed (and am often reminded of how often I use them as well :)) but at least the functionality exists. Generally if command left or command right doesn't work control a and control e will (like the terminal). Not as nice, but another solution.
